Chessters of Vermont
FAQ

Fair questions.
Straight answers.

Mostly about custard. Occasionally about cows.

What is frozen custard, and how is it different from ice cream?

Frozen custard contains egg yolk and is churned with less air than ice cream. That is a legal distinction under FDA standards of identity, and a texture distinction you can feel: custard is denser, richer and slower to melt. Chessters is made with real eggs and an ultra-rich 16% butterfat base, slowly churned. It is heavier in the hand for a reason.

What exactly is a Chessters?

Vanilla frozen custard between two soft, chewy, bakery-style chocolate chip cookies, packed with real mini chocolate chips. Never a wafer. It comes as a single (4.25 fl oz) or a 4-pack. That is the whole lineup, on purpose.

Where can I buy Chessters?

Chessters is stocked in select retailers across the Northeast, including every Stewart's Shops in New York and Vermont, with expansion planned throughout the US. Use the store locator to find the nearest freezer case.

My store doesn't carry it. Can I change that?

Yes, and it works more often than you would think. Ask the freezer manager for Chessters of Vermont by name and give them the UPC: 0-80979-12000-8 for singles, 0-80979-12101-2 for the 4-pack. Or email us the store and we will point the sales team at it.

How should I store it, and does it really melt slower?

Keep it frozen, start to finish. Because frozen custard is churned with less air, it is denser than ice cream and melts noticeably slower, which buys you a little grace between the freezer aisle and the car. It is still a frozen dessert, not a shelf-stable one.

Is Chessters kosher? What about RBST?

Chessters is certified kosher dairy, and the dairy is RBST free. For the full ingredient statement and allergen information, check the package — the wrapper and carton always carry the current legal panel.

Is this the same Chessters from years ago?

Same idea, same standard. Chessters is a Vermont-born novelty that people never actually stopped asking for, remembered far longer than it was on shelf. Now it is back, starting with Northeast freezers.

I'm a retailer or distributor. How do I stock Chessters?
